Gating system design and casting simulation application for the grooved worm wheel by using zinc alloy sand casting process

Bottom-up gated filling system was performed to produce worm wheel through a sand casting of zinc alloy. It symmetrical design in which two wheels were cast at once, the erected direction gravity and had gating molten alloy poured from below. The recovery rate designed mold cavity 60%. Casting analysis check that sequentially filled without turbulent flow as passed gate. Though speed initially unstable, it became stabilized while maintaining constant due continuous inflow. results directional solidification confirmed. An integrated pattern fabricated by 3D printer, manufactured accordingly. A sound defects could be casting.
